What is MATV?
MATV is an acronym that stands for Master Antenna Television, and it is also known as Multiple Access Television. Unlike commercial TV, MATV usually requires a specialised MATV installation and MATV outlet in order to work. The upfront investment can be substantial, but the features that you get will more than pay for themselves down the road.
Why is it important?
MATV offers the end user the ability to see the following services:
- Free to air
- Foxtel
- Optus
MATV can pipe these services to multiple locations, and it is applicable to most buildings. Regardless of the scale or the type of the building, MATV can get the job done.
How does it work?
In commercial buildings, there will be a centrally located master antenna that is connected to a building back-bone cable with an MATV splitter installed in the communications services riser on each floor. A horizontal MATV cable is then installed between the riser and the service point on your office floor. This setup gives you the ability to receive free to air television.
Basically, if you require ‘free to air’ television or one of the pay per view services such as Foxtel in your workplace, then you will be utilising MATV
